Adams rejects Greek bill; Tennis finishes second in nation

Filed under: Athletics, Greek Life, University Council — ruddlereport @ 11:46 pm

Two items of note this evening:

  • According to SGA President Jamie Peper, UGA President Michael Adams has vetoed the University Council's proposal of an eight-week limit to Greek new member education periods (sometimes called "pledgeship"); according to Peper, it was his first veto of a UC bill. The proposal, which passed over opposition by student UC members, would have prevented organizations from verifying potential members' grades before initiating them as full members, a practice utilized by several UGA chapters.
  • In athletic news, UGA's men's tennis team, previously undefeated, narrowly lost to Pepperdine University's Waves in the national title match in Palo Alto, California. The loss gave the 30-1 Bulldogs a second place finish in the NCAA tournament. Congrats to UGA men's tennis for their historic season and national ranking.

For more information, check out the Athens Banner-Herald article on the match.

That's all for now. We'll keep you posted.
